There’s a blaze in the ranges,
way off in the haze.
Indicating direction
the graded track takes.

Along up a gully,
droppin’ her back,
out through the ranges,
through to the next flat.

Rock-littered stretches
lead on through the day,
red soft ground beckons
near on a highway

as day slowly lingers
Nights moving in
silhouettes etched
‘long this outback highway.
